Why
Study in Asia?
Asian regions of the world have long been
areas of exploration, trade, and cultural exchange. Long-term
foreign occupation in this area has shaped its countries'
societies into one of the largest melting pots in the world.
The huge variety of programs in Asia offer students opportunities
to gain specialized knowledge in an all aspects of Asian society.
China
Staggeringly vast and a land of great diversity, China,
the world's most populous and third largest nation is more
like a continent in itself than a country. The nation comprises
five autonomous regions and twenty-two provinces, as well
as Hong Kong, which is now titled a 'Special Administrative
Region'.
The seat of government, Beijing, is a large city of 11 million
people, and like all of China's urban metropolises, life here
contrasts immensely with that of the peasant farmers in rural
areas.
Art in China is also stunningly unique, perhaps best typified
by calligraphy, performed with ink and brush, and held in
extremely high esteem by the Chinese.
Japan
One of the globe's leading economic power-houses, Japan
is an island chain situated in East Asia, flanked by the sea
of Japan is on its west coast and the Pacific Ocean to the
East. With a population of 126 million, Japan is one of the
world's most densely populated nations.
Japan's economic growth since World War II has been nothing
short of breathtaking, and the Japanese people are renowned
the world over for their strong work ethic, a trait supported
by the intense cooperation between government and industry.
The Japanese culture is one engendered in ceremony, with
respect and politeness as values held sacred in this enigmatic
Eastern nation.
Malaysia
One of the wealthiest and best developed countries
in South East Asia, Malaysia's cosmopolitan mix of Malay,
Chinese and Indian people make it a rewarding and fascinating
location for any visitor. The peninsula's impressive infrastructure,
coupled with beautiful scenery, makes travelling more of a
pleasure than a chore.
Any food lover will be in heaven when they visit Malaysia!
The country's racial mixture gives rise to a cuisine that
is as diverse as it is delicious. One Malaysian creation that
everyone seems to enjoy is 'satay', delicious meat kababs
in a spicy peanut sauce. This, along with many other culinary
delights can be found on the many street stalls that pepper
the sidewalk in any typical Malaysian town.
Singapore
Singapore, or the Republic of Singapore to give the
country its full title, is situated just north of the equator,
at the foot of the Malaysia peninsula.
Singapore is a major Asian success story, with its strong
economy and impressive infrastructure as an example to nations
on every continent. A real cosmopolitan society, the Chinese
form the majority of the population, but there are extremely
large Malay and Indian communities too, as well as a large
number of Western expatriates and business people.
Thailand
The Kingdom of Thailand is a country rich in culture
and heritage, famed for its wealth of temples, mines and artefacts.
The Thai people, though independent (Thailand has never been
colonised) are renowned for their charm and friendliness.
Because of this, their homeland is often referred to as 'The
Land of Smiles'.
