Why Do an
Immersion Course?
Many students wish to visit New York and stay in the
Big Apple to learn English. Many believe that in a city
that boasts hundreds of languages, from Spanish to Hindi
to Wolof, English is becoming the actual second language.
What a misconception! The reality is that like most experiences
in this city of lights, learning English may be an exhilarating,
fun, dynamic, challenging and truly unique event.
In New York, there are numerous places to learn English,
and numerous ways to learn it. One way is through an 'immersion
course'.
What's so good about immersion courses? These involve a
dynamic teaching approach that puts students at the center
of all classroom activities. Lessons mean involvement, participation
and encouragement to speak, which are the trademarks of
successful language acquisition. This also makes learning
a truly engaging experience!
Immersion courses are made up of several factors:
-
Small class sizes (with an average of 15 students);
-
Courses that target all language skills: writing,
reading, conversation and diction;
-
Special test prep courses for TOEFL, GMAT (verbal
skills for ESL students);
-
Special Advanced ESL College Prep Programs in Liberal
Arts and Business (six months in duration);
-
-
Experienced, highly qualified staff members that will
be able to assist you in your academic choice.
The Teaching Method
One option used in teaching English is the 'Rassias Method'®,
which makes the learning process an engaging experience.
With its interactive, dramatic teaching techniques and rhythmic
drills, the method helps students to learn English better
and more quickly than other approaches. The method emphasizes
all language skills, including listening comprehension,
speaking, reading and writing, with special emphasis on
oral proficiency.Make sure when choosing a language school
that one with a wide variety of different levels is considered.
In this way, student at all levels of proficiency will be
challenged and stimulated by classes that promote immediate
immersion in English.It is quite difficult to find comprehensive
language programs that are able to serve students in their
educational journey - and New York can be quite a maze.
Finding the right program can make a world of difference:
in your education, and your future.
