EDHEC graduate of MSc European Business awarded
Best Major Account Manager of UPS China for 2005.
January 27, 2006
Shiau-Lei Hou, graduate of the MSc in
European Business 2004-2005 was recently was awarded
the title of Best Major Account Manager for China in
2005 by UPS, a great achievement considering the fact
that Ms. Hou only joined the company in September 2005.
Before doing her Master of Science in
European Business, Ms. Hou worked for several years
in her native country Taiwan in the public sector (navy)
and also for private companies (ING Group, Citibank)
in the fields of logistics and consulting. She decided
to do the master's programme in EDHEC because she wanted
to gain visibility in a continent where Taiwanese diplomas
are not really recognized, update her knowledge in business
and complete her practical experience.
After finishing her studies in EDHEC she
joined the Taiwan Branch of UPS on 13th September 2005,
as an International Major Account Executive in charge
of UPS's 70 biggest customers in the country. UPS is
a US based corporation, the largest express carrier
and package delivery company in the world. Taiwan plays
an important role for UPS's strategy in Asia as its
CKS international airport is the company's hub for the
greater China market.
Ms. Hou's mission in UPS was to replace
a retiring Major Account Manager. Her beginnings in
the company were difficult as she had to replace a highly
successful manager and also be accepted in a male business
environment. She followed an innovative strategy towards
her customers that quickly paid off. She managed to
increase the billing of her customers and sign important
new contracts. It was not a surprise therefore when
she was awarded the title of Best Major Account Manager
of UPS China for the year, despite her recent arrival.
Although she has a successful career in
Taiwan, Ms. Hou wants to come back to work in Europe
in the future. She thinks that she will stay in Taiwan
for one or two more years before trying to move back
to Europe thanks to both UPS and EDHEC networks.
