Chile
is the long and narrow country of Pablo Nerudo, the golden land
of Gabriela Mistral where according to Aymaras "The world
ends".
This amazing country, full of history, offers travellers a range
of extreme geographical contrasts: Barren desert in the north,
the mighty Pacific Ocean in the west, the imposing Andes in
the east and the Antarctic in the south.
Chile is a land of contrast
and beauty. Its people are typical Latin American, full of
joie de vivre, friendly and outgoing.
Things work in Chile! Infrastructure in the cities is second
to none in Latin America and comparable with European or North
American standards. Chilean cities are enriched by typical
architecture, colourful markets, gastronomic treats and natural
beauty.
The capital Santiago is an
ideal base for travellers to discover the country. See the
barren Atacama- desert in the north with its salt lakes, thermal
springs and historic ruins. You will marvel at the richly
coloured landscapes during the day and at the celestial beauty
of a starlit night sky.
Visit the fertile central
valley. It is the fruit bowl of Chile. Here you will find
the famous vineyards, which produce the internationally acclaimed
Chilean wines. A wine lover's paradise!
Most travellers want to see the southern regions of Chile
and experience the history of indigenous cultures such as
the mapuche, onas or picunches. The south of Chile is also
known for its impressive landscapes, lakes and rivers, its
forests, volcanos and national parks. The famous "Torres
del Paine" is one of the world's most striking mountain
regions, attracting thousands of tourists every year.
Chile's islands are magical! Marvel at the mysterious rock
sculptures, the Moais, on Easter Island or visit Chiloe, the
legendary fishermen's island with its famous churches, that
are today protected national monuments. See Robinson Crusoe
Island, the starting point of Alejandro Selkirl's fascinating
story.
Chile is politically and economically
the most stable country in Latin America. Visitors who want
to combine language study and travel will appreciate this
fact.
