University of Rhode Island

 

The University of Rhode Island (URI) is a Land, Sea, and Urban Grant public research institution, with a dynamic environment focused on preparing students to succeed in the expanding global job market. 

With 13,000 undergraduates, students come from across the United States and from 22 different countries. Located in the state of Rhode Island on the northeast coast of the U.S., the safe, rural campus (1,200 acres) is only 10 minutes from the ocean and within easy reach of such major cities as Boston (90 minutes north) and New York City (less than three hours south). 

University of Rhode IslandURI offers merit scholarships to international freshman applicants.  These applicants must apply by the early action deadline of December 15, 2008. 

With more than 80 majors, undergraduate degrees at URI include the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, and Bachelor of Music.  There are seven degree-granting colleges: Arts and Sciences, Business Administration (AACSB accredited), Engineering (with ABET accredited programs), Environment & Life Sciences, Human Science and Services, Nursing, and Pharmacy.  The six-year Pharmacy program is a Pharm D. degree. 

URI continuously adds innovative new majors to address emerging fields and changes in the world.  Among the newest majors are Chemistry and Forensic Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Engineering.

URI also offers three five-year, dual-degree programs: International Engineering (the first of its kind and serving as a model worldwide), International Business, and Engineering and Masters in Business Administration.  The University also has a robust Graduate School, including the world-renowned Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO), which was called upon by the United States Government in the immediate aftermath of the devastating 2004 Tsunami.

URI is committed to promoting international education and intercultural exchange by integrating a global perspective throughout our programs and campus life.  Students are encouraged to add interdisciplinary double majors and minors to supplement their major and develop additional skills that better prepare for success in the global workplace.
