The University of Nottingham

The University of Nottingham School of Mathematical Scienceslady

The School of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Nottingham, one of the UK’s most prestigious Universities, is a large and thriving centre with high standards in undergraduate education, postgraduate education, and research. We currently have over fifty permanent academic staff, around twenty research staff and over seventy postgraduates. Each year we welcome approximately 200 students on to our various undergraduate degree courses. Our staff numbers ensure both an excellent provision for teaching (for example, enabling us to run small-group tutorials) and also a wide diversity of mathematical topics and options to study in our courses. Academic staff in the School all have national and international reputations for the excellence of their research, and have extensive research links with colleagues in industry and academia, both in the UK and overseas. This research background helps us to ensure that we offer up-to-date degree courses that give you an insight into cutting-edge mathematics.

We offer the following single and joint honours undergraduate courses:

  • G100 (BSc 3 Years) G103 (MMath 4 years) Mathematics
  • G104 (BSc 4 Years) Mathematics (International Study)
  • G1H1 (BSc 3 years, MMath 4 years) Mathematics with Engineering
  • F326 (BSc 3 years) F325 (MSci 4 years) Mathematical Physics
  • GG41 (BSc 3 years) GG14 (MSci 4 years) Mathematics and Computer Science
  • GL11 (BSc 3 years) Mathematics and Economics
  • GN12 (BSc 3 years) Mathematics and Management Studies
  • GV15 (BSc 3 years) Mathematics and Philosoph

We also run an MSc course in Statistics and Applied Probability.

There are research opportunities in a wide variety of mathematical and statistical disciplines, leading to the research degrees of PhD or MPhil.
