We
have an international reputation as a member of the
elite group of leading UK research universities, and
we strongly welcome international students. We have
students from 100 countries, excellent English language
teaching facilities, an International Office, good university
accommodation (or help to find private accommodation),
scholarships for top students and a range of welfare,
sporting and cultural opportunities for overseas students.
Within one of the largest Faculties of Engineering in
the UK, two of our departments have the coveted UK Five
Star research rating, and all have good national
Teaching Quality Assessment scores:
Chemical & Process Engineering
Civil Engineering
Electrical & Electronic Engineering
Engineering Mathematics (Postgraduate only)
Marine Technology
Mechanical Materials & Manufacturing Engineering
We also have a wide range of specialist centres and
units, including the first Engineering Design Centre
in the UK, the Centre for Quality Engineering (recognised
as a Centre of Excellence by the Institute
of Quality Assurance), the Design Unit (which houses
the UK National Gear Metrology Laboratory, and is
recognised as a Centre of Excellence by
the British Gear Association) and many others.

We have 24 one-year taught MSc/Diploma programmes, including
vocationally-oriented conversion courses
as well as preparations for a research and development
career (e.g. our MRes in Marine Technology).
Opportunities exist for higher degrees by research
(MPhil, PhD) in all departments, often within an active
research group associated with one of our specialist
research centres. We can arrange split PhD
schemes with your own university, or enable you to
conduct part of your research in your own university
or company. Special enquiries about these can be addressed
to our Postgraduate Sub Dean, Professor PM Taylor,
at:

(Postdoctoral Fellows are also welcomed)

Because of our research excellence, we have high quality
laboratory, computing and library facilities, which
directly benefit our undergraduate students. It also
means that your project work will be undertaken in
an environment with strong industrial and research
links. All of our undergraduate engineering degrees
are CEng Accredited by the UK professional engineering
bodies.
We offer 20 MEng (4 year) and BEng (3 year) degrees,
with entry at first year, Foundation Year (adding
one year to the course) or Direct Entry to second
year or third (MEng only) year, depending on your
qualifications. We have degrees that are unique in
the UK (e.g. Marine Engineering), as well as the usual
mainstream Civil, Electrical and Mechanical fields.
We also offer the opportunity for one semester or
one year programmes as part of the degree from your
own university (e.g. Junior Year Abroad). For details,
