The future belongs to scientists
and technologists who can recognise opportunities in
the market and respond with innovation. Manchester Science
Enterprise Centre is a new initiative established within
the four universities of Greater Manchester. Its programmes
are centered on a unique Master of Enterprise degree
that can lead to the formation of a high-tech company.
Our challenge is to add a third dimension to the academic
agenda, which complements research and teaching - creative
enterprise in science.
The
Centre
Manchester Science Enterprise Centre provides people
with a unique opportunity to develop a high-tech venture
whilst supported by taught business enterprise modules.
Our programmes are designed to train and motivate, mentor
and inspire the technical entrepreneurs of tomorrow.
Students work on real-life business projects in the
brand new, multidisciplinary Business Creation Unit,
where their entrepreneurial instincts are encouraged,
mentored and stimulated. Our aim is to launch businesses
and create careers, inspiring and enabling the scientists
of the future to exploit their knowledge as high-tech
entrepreneurs. More than four spin-out companies
will be formed from this year's intake of students.

The
Course
A one-year, full-time postgraduate degree course offered
at UMIST, The University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan
University and The University of Salford. The Master
of Enterprise degree has been designed to prepare people
for careers as high technology entrepreneurs, working
in their own companies or within existing organisations
as creators of new products and services at the forefront
of technology, managing the process from inception to
market. The one-year course is centered on an enterprise
project in which students develop a business idea in
the market. Their project work is supported by taught
programmes that advance their knowledge of relevant
science and business enterprise.
