The Ecoles des
Mines network proposes ten Master's programs whose goals
are:
· to provide
advanced skills, according to the orientation of each
MSc program;
· to broaden the participants' knowledge of sciences
and technologies;
· to provide a strong background in economics
and management in an international context;
· to give the opportunity to acquire valuable
experience.
The GEM Approach
to Teaching
All these programs
combine tuition in both technical and management areas,
aiming to provide students with the qualities that are
necessary to manage an industrial project. This includes
not only scientific and technical knowledge, but also
legal, economic, financial and social aspects such as
strategy, feasibility, planning, organisation, marketing,
quality, logistics and trade. Teaching is a balanced
mix of theoretical and case-study tuition. The GEM has
set up these programs to meet the needs of international
industrial groups whose successful outcome of projects
depends on mobilising the above skills and qualities.
International
Dimension
These programs take
place in an international context. Teaching is mostly
in English, and provided by high-level international
specialists from the academic and industrial world (full-time
professors and experts from industry).
In addition to its
Master's programs, GEM offers French courses that enable
foreign students to follow lectures in French at the
end of the programs.
A Synergy with
Industry
Groupe des Ecoles
des Mines benefit from a quality guarantee, thanks to
the control and certification of the French Government
(Ministry of Industry/Ministry of Education), but also
of the industrial world with whom they work in close
cooperation. The Ecoles des Mines are situated in the
most dynamic regions in France, from the Mediterranean
Sea to the Atlantic, from Mont Blanc to the Eiffel Tower.
This situation enables the GEM to benefit from a good
synergy with six neighbouring European countries.
Internships
The very important
third semester is devoted to an external internship.
You can choose between spending this in a laboratory
environment or on an industrial placement. In many cases,
the internship leads to an offer of a job on completion
of the Master's program, and is rightly considered a
major benefit of the GEM approach.
Each school is well
placed to help you identify the right internship. Close
contacts with industrial concerns, as well as with alumni
around the world, ensure that there is always a wide
variety of projects to choose from. If you opt for an
industrial placement, you will be allocated a mentor
to whom you can turn for advice and guidance through
your stay, and who will help you resolve any problems
you may encounter. In addition, use of the Internet
has become increasingly frequent, and is a much-valued
way of keeping in touch!
Top-Class Facilities
Investment in equipment
and facilities is given equally high priority, so that
Ecoles des Mines offer students the benefit of access
to the very best, from laboratories and libraries to
a wide variety of computer equipment, usually available
24 hour a day.
These fifteen-month
Master's courses are open to international participants
holding a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Science or
Engineering, or having a relevant work experience. It
is aimed at students who already have a good scientific
and technological training, and will enable them to
acquire high-level conceptual and methodological knowledge.
They will gain practical experience by working on a
project in an industrial group in the context of their
internship.
In the scope of
its Master, the Groupe des Ecoles des Mines has already
selected students from various countries, including
Austria, Egypt, China, Turkey and the Ukraine. Their
purpose is to have a high diversity of student origins,
in order to affirm the internship dimension of the programmes.
The courses are
divided into three semesters: two academic semesters
and a five-month Internship in a company or laboratory.
This internship (during which students are allocated
a mentor) is considered a major benefit of the GEM approach.
