Columbia University’s Master ’s Program in Paris
The M.A.Program in French Cultural Studies centers on modern French culture and society in the 19th and 20th centuries. During the first six weeks in residence, students improve and develop language skills, attend a theories and methods seminar, and participate in workshops. They thus ensure their ability to take full advantage of the program offerings. The required seminars at Reid Hall set modern French society in its historical and critical context and address the issues of Cultural Studies. A variety of elective seminars in the French academic system allows students to concentrate on specific topics.

Based in Reid Hall,Columbia University’s campus in Paris, the program is situated in the heart of Montparnasse.Reid Hall, with its 18th-century charm, is prized today for its ongoing ties with prominent French institutions such as the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique; the Mason des Sciences de l’Homme; the Ecole Francaise d’Extreme Orient ; the Fondation Nationale des Sciences Politiques; the Centre d ’Etudes et de Recherches Feministes; Universite de Paris VII (Denis Diderot); as well as different branches of the University of Paris. The quality of the Paris experience enhances the intrinsic value of the M.A. in French Cultural Studies.Study in Paris reinforces your ability to understand Frenchlanguage and society; to appreciate the cosmopolitan geopolitical site that Paris has long symbolized for intellectuals; and to analyze the relations between France, Francophone countries, and Europe.
