As a major international language
training center, Chinese Language Center is currently
the largest university-based center in Hong Kong. It
has a well-structured program in both Putonghua and
Cantonese, focusing on a communicative approach.
Every year over 1,100 students from different parts
of the world are admitted to the language center, ranging
from absolute beginners to trained sinologists who wish
to learn Putonghua or Cantonese. Courses are offered
at all levels so that students can find training suited
to their needs and ability.
A
major feature of CLC is teaching in small groups with
maximum of 8 students. Applications for admission to
the Center may be made at any time on a form obtained
by writing to the CLC or downloaded from the Centers
homepage. Completed application forms must be accompanied
by international money order or cheque for the equivalent
of HK$1,600 (US$1 = HK$7.8) made payable to The Chinese
University of Hong Kong.
Of this amount $400 serves as a non-refundable
processing fee. The remaining $1,200 is credited to
the students account after formal registration
at the CLC.
