CHARACTERISTICS OF INSTITUTION
Chabot College is a public comprehensive community college that prepares students to succeed in their education and engage in the civic and cultural life of the global community. The college offers a two-year curriculum for students seeking career preparation, transfer to a four-year college or university, or personal enrichment. Last year Chabot College hosted over 100 international students from 30 different countries. Thousands of other international students have graduated, improved their English and transferred to a university throughout the past years.
The facilities have been planned to take advantage of new approaches to learning, to facilitate the development of experimental programs and to be adaptable to changes brought about by new technology. Students can go to the Tutorials Center for additional help with their studies. A new state-of-the-art computer lab in the Library has more than 120 Internet-ready computers available to students. Chabot's newest facility is the 40,000-square-foot computer and science building. Buildings have classrooms and laboratories for social science, language arts, humanities, international language, art, music, drama, physics and mathematics and physical education. Special features include a 1,500-seat Performing Arts Center, planetarium, two gymnasiums, five athletic fields, 12 tennis courts, indoor handball and racquetball courts, new strength-training facilities, a 400-meter track, and a state-of-the-art fitness center.

Student at Chabot CollegeENGLISH PROGRAMS
The College does not offer beginning or "survival" ESL courses. ESL classes at the College are at intermediate and advanced levels only. International students can obtain English competency by enrolling in ESL courses at the ELS Language Center program conveniently located on the Chabot College campus. The College will accept completion of the Level 109 course in lieu of TOEFL. Students may begin ESL studies with the ELS Language Center then transfer directly to Chabot College to begin academic studies.

DEGREE/CERTIFICATE REQUIREMENTS
To receive an Associate in Arts or Science Degree, students must complete the minimum of 60 semester units with a grade-point average of 2.0 or better.

ENGLISH PROFICIENCY
TOEFL score is required.

It is strongly recommended that students apply six months before the semester they wish to start studying.

Numerous student support services have been established at Chabot College to help students move toward the attainment of their goals and add value to the college experience. These programs are designed to assist students in the decision making process by helping them identify and clarify personal, career, and educational goals. Students are encouraged to seek assistance for any issue that may be affecting their college career whether the concern is academic or nonacademic. HOUSING
Chabot College does not offer on-campus housing; however, there are housing opportunities in the area including private apartments and rooms for rent. Chabot College has an agreement with California State University, East Bay (CSU-EB) and DeVry University that allows students to live in student housing located on the University campus. Public transportation is available to and from campus. Contact the International Student Office for details and cost. The International Student Office can provide assistance to help students locate housing. It will be necessary for the student to make living arrangements before arriving in the country.

CHILD CARE FACILITIES
The Chabot College Children's Center serves Southern Alameda County providing quality care for the children of students, faculty and staff and provides training to students of Early Childhood Development (ECD). For additional information please call (510) 723-6684.

The College offers an International Student Club, in which members plan academic and social events that help international students make friends, learn about other cultures and explore bay area activities and attractions. Events on campus are also coordinated to promote global awareness.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SERVICES
The International program at Chabot College encourages students from other countries to enroll. It includes provision of services to international students who hold student visas by assisting them across matriculation (admissions, assessment, orientation, counseling, and follow-up).

CLIMATE AND GEOGRAPHY
Climate: The Hayward area experiences mild temperatures year-round with periods of rainfall during fall, winter, and spring seasons and sunshine during the rest of the summer months.

Geography: Chabot College is centrally located in the beautiful San Francisco Bay area. The college is near many of the finest four-year universities and colleges in the U.S. It is within easy driving distance of the cities of Berkeley, San Jose and San Francisco. Public transit is available which allows access to neighboring cities. The San Francisco Bay area is one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse regions in the United States and offers students a broad range of cultural, historic, recreational, and entertainment resources.

Chabot College is a public two-year California educational institution accredited by the Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and welcomes students from around the world. It is authorized by the Department of Homeland Security United States Customs and Immigration Service (DHS / USCIS) to accept non-immigrant students. The College is also among the most important institutions of higher learning in the San Francisco Bay Area.
