Location
Located in the centre of one of Europes most delightful
picturesque cities, with strong links with British industry,
Europe and overseas institutions, the Department offers
outstanding opportunities.
Distinctive Features of the Bath Degree
The Department provides high-standard courses which
are intended for young men and women who wish to become
Chartered, Professional Electronic & Electrical
Engineers. Such people are described by the Engineering
Council as those with a wide knowledge and understanding
of engineering principles, who are able to produce innovative
solutions to engineering problems and who are able to
give both technical and managerial leadership. Chartered
engineers are expected to work beyond the limits of
current practice, be able to maintain a view of engineering
developments for the medium and long term, and be suitable
for promotion to middle and top management positions.
New
approach in First Year Teaching
The Department has adopted a resource-based
learning strategy to teaching students in the early
part of the course. This is intended to better prepare
students, from a wide range of pre-University qualifications,
to meet the pre-requisites for the second year of our
courses.
Students are regularly provided
with Workpackages, each with text-based, computer-based
and laboratory resources. In each Workpackage the timetabled
student commitment is one lecture, a dedicated Tutorial/Laboratory
period and a feedback session. The rest of the time
is for the students to pursue the learning objectives
of the Workpackages at their own pace, and to help in
this our new Agilent Laboratory Suite is on open access
to students throughout the day. This allows a student
to concentrate their efforts towards those areas of
the syllabus that they find either newer, or more interesting
